Most of us start off our new year with resolutions and promises. We swear that this time it will be different, this time we’ll lose the weight, this time we’ll stick to the budget.

As new and exciting as this time of year is, it often ends up being more of a letdown. It reminds us that our strength is limited and our self-control sucks. It shoves the word “failure” in our face as those resolutions aren’t met…again.

But there is a different kind of new beginning that lasts. A different kind of promise that is never broken. It’s the new beginning we receive when we encounter Christ.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters….Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.” Genesis 1:1-4 NLT

In the very beginning, when God created the world, the earth was covered in darkness. But God wasn’t going to leave it that way. He wasn’t going to let it stay empty and lifeless.

Instead, God spoke and brought light to the earth. He forever changed it, making it a brand new creation – one that would never be covered in darkness again.

In this next series, each writer will share about a “new beginning” God has created in their life. Whether it’s the first time they accepted Jesus or a time further along in their faith journey, each story will bring you new perspective on the changes Christ brings to our lives.

God never leaves us where we’re at. Accepting Christ not only erases all our sins but also changes us from the inside out over time. We ARE new creations, just like the earth and the galaxies, called out of darkness and brought to life with Christ’s light.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
