Community is such an important part of our lives. No matter what your beliefs are, the toll isolation takes on us is proven to be one of the worst things for our health.
The Bible also teaches us things about community and friendship. We are instructed many times to love one another, encourage one another, be united with others, and continually create opportunities for fellowship.
God did not create us to be alone. He saw Adam in the garden and knew he needed more than just the animals and plants. He needed a physical friend, a lover, a helper. (See Genesis 2:18.)
Although God knew He, Himself was completely enough for us – His friendship, His love, His help – He wanted to create the opportunity for us to have friends here on earth. What a blessing!
This month, each of our writers will be sharing their thoughts about friendship. Healthy friendships, unhealthy friendships, and how God has used friends to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their own lives are just some of the topics we will discuss.
We hope that this series not only encourages you to reconnect with old friends, but also to create new ones. We hope it inspires you to water the roots of the current friendships you have, bringing them to full bloom. And ultimately we hope through it all that God is glorified and you are able to understand a little more about Him.
“Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.” Hebrews 10:24-25 GNT
